Invoice Bubble Makes Invoicing Easy and Affordable

Quick Pitch: Invoice Bubble is a simple and affordable online invoicing solution for freelancers and small businesses.

Genius Idea: Invoice Bubble is a tool for creating invoices or estimates, while still offering features like recurring invoices and PDF downloads.

The app is the little brother of the project management tool Project Bubble. Both products offer similar features to other online offerings, but the focus is on small businesses and freelancers, which means that it’s all about being easy to use and being affordable.

Invoice Bubble is really easy to set-up — I was able to create a recurring invoice in just a few minutes. You can also customize the branding of your invoice and choose to either make it viewable online or keep it private.

I really like that you can download PDFs of your invoices in addition to sending e-mails, because some employers or companies have policies that dictate the need for PDF invoices. In the future, the option to send out invoices through the postal services will be available as well.

While Invoice Bubble isn’t as robust a solution as FreshBooks or Billing Manager, it’s extremely simple to set-up and use.

The free plan lets you send unlimited invoices to 5 clients. For $5 a month, you can sent invoices and estimates to an unlimited number of clients and get data import and export support. For freelancers or small business users who either need to create an occasional invoice or want a solution that is affordable, Invoice Bubble is worth checking out.

BREAKING: Twitter Acquires Tweetie

Twitter has just announced that it has acquired Atebits, the company behind the popular Tweetie iPhone app and Mac desktop application.

In a blog post, Twitter CEO Evan Williams announced the move to acquire Tweetie. Twitter’s creator, Loren Brichter, will be joining the Twitter team as well. The app will be renamed “Twitter for iPhone” and be made free in the next few weeks.

From the announcement:

“We’re thrilled to announce that we’ve entered into an agreement with Atebits (aka Loren Brichter) to acquire Tweetie, a leading iPhone Twitter client. Tweetie will be renamed Twitter for iPhone and made free (currently $2.99) in the iTunes AppStore in the coming weeks. Loren will become a key member of our mobile team that is already having huge impact with device makers and service providers around the world.”

Twitter also specifically mentions that an official Twitter iPad apps is indeed coming: “Developers, services, and publishers will be able to leverage the Twitter iPhone and iPad applications to create additional innovative tools and integrations for users,” Williams said in today’s announcement.

The move comes less than a week after a controversial blog post from Twitter investor Fred Wilson, Principal of Union Square Ventures. In it, Wilson explained that he is looking for Twitter apps to not fill holes in the Twitter platform (e.g. photo sharing, mobile apps) and instead focus on innovative products and “killer apps.” The post caught the attention of developers, who feared that Twitter itself would begin competing with their applications.

It’s uncertain what the acquisition of Tweetie means for unofficial Twitter mobile apps such as Echofon, TweetDeck, or Seesmic.

RIM Acquisition Could Bring BlackBerry Connectivity to Your Car

Research in Motion (RIM), makers of the BlackBerry, have just finalized a deal to acquire QNX Software Systems from Harman International.

QNX is a company that offers middleware, development tools and other products aimed at embedded platforms — that might not sound that cool, but it actually makes its acquisition extremely interesting.

RIM’s announcement emphasizes the work that QNX does in the automotive sector. While this isn’t an area that RIM has really explored before, QNX could be a great way to get in on the platform. Plus, as we’ve seen with the latest upgrades to the Ford SYNC system, the connected car can look very similar to existing mobile platforms.

Earlier this week, we showcased a video featuring the first car installation of an iPad. I know I’m not the only person who went “bingo, that’s the future.” Ubiquitous connectivity can extend beyond just the smartphone, and by acquiring a company that already has a foothold in that space, RIM can enter the market at a much better position.

Furthermore, the IP involved at QNX includes a real-time operating system that runs on a very lean micro-kernel. Any technology that could make RIM devices (hand-held or otherwise) run more efficiently and with better memory performance is a good thing.

Breakout Hits: The Annoying Orange and Key of Awesome

The Annoying Orange debuted on the chart at #1 last month with an already impressive 29 million views. In March it grew 80% to 52 million, leaving most of the competition far behind. Some folks will observe that it’s surprising that those 52 million people don’t find the orange that stars in the series too annoying. Others will just keep on laughing.

The other big winner this month is Key of Awesome, which jumped from fewer than 14 million views to more than 21 million, moving from #4 to #2. This was thanks in part to two hugely successful Lady Gaga-related music videos: “No Lady Gaga Telephone! Adam Lambert: Behind the Awesome” and “Lady Gaga Telephone Parody (ft Beyonce): Key of Awesome #17.”

Apparently the Internet loves Lady Gaga. Who knew?

Newcomers: Charlie the Unicorn and Potter Puppet Pals

Look at these two new successes and you might notice a pattern: Many of the top series on the list combine kid show presentation with some edgy, grown-up humor. The Annoying Orange, Happy Tree Friends, Charlie the Unicorn, and Potter Puppet Pals all seem like they might be for kids at first glance, but they can be pretty morbid.

Even Fred is edgy sometimes thanks to its implication of a difficult family life for the title character.

Charlie the Unicorn and Potter Puppet Pals are also comparatively old; both are on the list thanks to traffic on episodes published several years ago. Viral success can be gradual, it can be delayed, or it can even come in spurts.

Why is Fred Less Popular Now?

Fred slipped from its usual #1 or #2 spot to #4. Why did that happen?

The simple answer is that actor Lucas Cruikshank has (at least for now) moved on to bigger, more lucrative things. He’s playing the role of Fred in a made-for-TV movie on Nickelodeon called Fred: The Movie. As a result, he has dedicated less of his time to producing YouTube videos, so viewership declined 17%.

Fred: The Movie won’t be Cruikshank’s Nickelodeon debut, though; he has previously appeared in a cameo role as Fred on the series iCarly. Oh, and if this new movie is successful, a theatrical follow-up is possible, so be prepared for the possibility that this downward trend will continue for his YouTube videos.

10 Essential Social Media Tools for B2B Marketers

Like anything else, social media marketing is easier, more efficient and more effective if the marketer has the right set of tools. While hundreds (if not thousands) of tools and services exist for social media marketing, many are still primarily aimed at either consumers or B2C marketers. Fear not B2B marketers — there are still plenty of great tools out there than can best address the unique needs of the B2B space.

We’ve raided our own toolkits to come up with some of the best tools and services for B2B marketers that want to get the most out of social media.

1. Salesforce.com

The mac daddy of web-based CRM products hasn’t been afraid to embrace social media. In the last six months, Salesforce.com has introduced a number of different solutions via its Service Cloud 2 platform for helping integrate social media with the Salesforce.com ecosystem.

One of the best applications for B2B marketers who use Salesforce.com is Salesforce for Twitter. Don’t confuse this with Chatter, Salesforce.com’s Facebook for Business, Salesforce for Twitter will let you pull in and monitor Twitter feeds and accounts within the Salesforce.com CRM.

What makes this fantastic is that you can assign cases or leads based on a tweet directly in the CRM that can then be followed up on and monitored along with the other aspects of your work flow. What makes social media more difficult for B2B marketers isn’t that the tools can’t translate from B2C to B2B — they can — it’s that many times those tools don’t integrate well with existing platforms and solutions that a B2B business might have in place.

2. HootSuite

HootSuite is a great tool not only for managing multiple Twitter accounts (or allowing multiple users access to an account), but also for managing multiple social networks. In November, HootSuite introduced support for LinkedIn and Facebook. HootSuite also now supports WordPress blogs, which works great if you want to have a way to schedule posts and messages to multiple networks. HootSuite also supports alerts and stats tracking. HootSuite is free.

3. CoTweet

Billing itself as a Twitter CRM tool, CoTweet has been used by a number of big brands, including Ford and JetBlue, and it offers an easy way to manage multiple accounts and also allow multiple users to access a single account. CoTweet also lets you monitor keywords and trends and assign updates to colleagues for follow-up, which can be great for lead-generation. CoTweet was acquired by ExactTarget last month. While the service is available for free, an enterprise option is available for large brands or organizations, starting at a pricey $1,500 a month.

4. SocialTALK

SocialTALK from Syncapse is a social media workflow tool that is designed to help companies control their presence on different platforms and monitor feedback. We covered SocialTALK when it launched in February and it remains one of a handful of services really aimed at helping businesses manage multiple social media accounts from a single dashboard. 3 Reasons to Get Excited About the Apple Game Center

This summer, the iPhone and iPod touch will get an operating system update (iPhone OS 4.0) that will include a new service called the Game Center. The service will launch on the iPad this fall, too.

The Game Center will resemble Microsoft’s Xbox Live and Sony’s PlayStation Network with leaderboards, matchmaking, achievements, friend lists and invitations to folks who make and play games.

Don’t brush this off as a minor item in Apple’s update notes; Steve Jobs included it as a major “tentpost” alongside multitasking and folders during the iPhone OS 4.0 announcement for a reason. It’s the biggest development in mobile gaming in several years, and we expect it will be a success with both game makers and game players.

1. No One Has Pulled This Off Before (On Mobile)

Microsoft’s Xbox Live for the Xbox 360 is the standard-bearer when it comes to social gaming services, along with its less popular Games for Windows Live network for PC gamers. Sony’s PlayStation 3 has the PlayStation Network, which is similar in functionality; it covers all the bases well enough but most gamers believe it’s not as well realized as Xbox Live. The popular PC game distribution service Steam (soon to hit Macs, too) also has the same features as Apple’s Game Center.

However, Game Center is likely to be the first successful service of its type on any mobile platform.
